Research Assistant Scientist

The Department of Geography at the University of Florida is pleased to announce a one year position for a Research Assistant Scientist with expertise in security and insurgencies in the Sahel-Sahara. The position is open to scholars with a PhD in Geography, Political Science, or related field. We seek a dynamic scholar with a strong research focus on spatial patterns and social networks of violent extremist organizations in West Africa as well as a willingness to engage with the policy community. The Research Assistant Scientist will contribute to the ongoing research project on “Foreign interventions and transnational insurgencies in the Sahara-Sahel” led by researchers from the Sahel Research Group at the University of Florida. The teaching assignment is one course per semester.


Qualifications :

 A Ph.D. in Geography, Political Science or an appropriate field.
 Significant research experience on and in the Sahel, including substantive fieldwork.
 Strong quantitative skills, including statistical analysis and network analysis.
 A record of—and/or significant promise for—publication on the region.
 An ability to work both independently and as part of a highly collegial team.
