The project Beta maṣāḥǝft : Manuscripts of Ethiopia and Eritrea

PhD scholarship

Duration
The scholarship shall be allocated for three years.

Funding
The scholarship amounts to the net sum of € 1,250 per month.

Research
It is mandatory that the proposed research topic is consistent with the project goals.

The second project phase places special attention on codicology and manuscript production in Ethiopia and Eritrea, with a particular focus on layout, text arrangement, and text decoration, and the PhD projects are expected to contribute to research in this field.

Requirements
A degree in Ethiopian studies, Semitic studies, African studies, Theology, Art history, or other related discipline is a necessary requirement. The knowledge of English and of Gəʿəz is expected. The knowledge of Amharic and other Ethiopian, Eritrean and European languages, as well as experience in manuscript cataloguing and digital humanities are an advantage.
